Changed Lives Quotes from WTR Last Weekend

Posted by on Mar 25, 2009 in Marriage, Ministry | 0 comments

The Walls that 22 years of marriage has built up are tumbling down.  Oneness is our goal for the first time.

We were separated for the 2nd time in 10 months (5 months separated total).  In 10 days I was considering legal separation and divorce.  My husband refused counseling.  By the grace of God he came, how he got here is a series of miracles and we are re-bonded and committed to “failure is not an option”.  Thank you very, very, very much.  Now we deeply desire to help others get to Weekend to Remember.

Prior to this conference, my wife had filed for divorce. We now understand our purpose and she told me this morning that she would never divorce me no matter what and would marry me again if she had to choose.  Married two years.

God’s timing is perfect.  Lawyers had been called and appointments were made in January 2009.  Several pivotal events happened and we both agreed to give us one more shot and lean on God to help us walk.  This conference came at a time that we are able to use to begin a new NORMAL for our family.

My spouse and I were going through a divorce and had been separated for 31/2 months & we have now reconciled and will be spending the rest of our lives together in Christ.  Thank you.

Three Days before the conference I left my house and was living at my mom’s house to leave my troubled marriage.  My husband and I attended the conference as a last attempt to save our marriage.  Thank you – we walked in angry and left willing to work together.

My husband and I had actually contemplated whether to spend the $180+ paid for the conference on a divorce attorney.  After almost 15 years of marriage, saying we were in a rut was a major understatement.  We still have a big work to do, but thank God for the hope and strength to keep working at it.

We came with the desire to be happily married because we don’t believe in divorce, but I did not want to be married to the man sitting next to me.  I was focusing on all the things that I couldn’t stand about him.  Now I feel like the net has been lifted and I can see all of the things I love about him.

Making Good Marriages Even Better

Here’s a letter sent to speaker Kyle Dodd after the Tulsa WTR this past weekend. It’s a good example of why everyone can benefit from the Weekend to Remember:

Dear Kyle,
I attended the Family Life “Weekend to Remember” Conference this past weekend in Tulsa, OK.  I wanted to follow up with you and offer my sincere thanks for your outstanding message during this conference.  God has given you a great gift and a clear purpose to help educate couples about marriage and family.
I came to this conference thinking my relationship with my wife and kids was already good, so what more could this offer me?  Wow, was I convicted and blown away!  God has been dealing with me about my hesitancy to assume the role of spiritual leader in my household.  This past weekend my wife shared with me that she has been praying for some time that I would step up and assume this role.  You spoke so vividly to me during the men’s portion of the conference.  I have been passive in my ability to lead my family.  My family was being led by committee and that is certainly not in God’s design.
When I arrived home, I immediately began praying and asking for God’s direction in this area.  Sunday evening I called our family together for a team meeting. There I outlined a plan to set aside time in our busy schedule for some family bible study and prayer time.  This was the first time I can remember ever praying over my family when it was not before a meal.  My kids (2 girls ages 11 & 15) loved the idea of a special family devotional time several times a week.  The greatest thing was seeing my wife with tears running down her cheeks as she hugged and thanked me for pushing passivity aside and assuming my role as the spiritual leader. God is good!
Thanks again for your great message.  You were such a blessing to us this past weekend.

Perfect Placement

Posted by on Mar 3, 2009 in Ministry | 0 comments

Just received this email from a couple who attended a Weekend To Remember last year:

I really should share with you.  Last year, my husband and I attended because we had been struggling with each other due to infertility and many problems with adoptions.  We had had so many ups and downs with the adoption that it was taking a toll on us.  The week-end was amazing and we left renewed.  At the conference I had put a prayer in the prayer box for “the perfect placement of our daughter” as we were pursuing an adoption of a little girl in Taiwan.  We left on Sunday, feeling really good and then on Monday received a horrible e-mail stating that there were new requirements that we did not meet for the adoption (after 10 months of turning in paperwork, sending money and going through the home study).  We felt like God had turned his back on us.  Really I’m not sure we as a couple would have been strong enough to have endured this had we not just attended the conference.  To make a long story short, we then found out we were pregnant in October and in January found out it is a girl.  I now realize God did answer our prayer of the perfect placement of our daughter, just not the way we thought it would happen.  Praise God.  Thank you so much for offering such a wonderful week-end.

Changed Legacy Story from this Past Weekend

Posted by on Feb 18, 2009 in Marriage, Ministry | 0 comments

It’s amazing to hear the stories of change that happen over the course of 48 hours. I really don’t know where you can see it as clearly as at a Weekend to Remember conference. At every event we see many couples enter on Friday night barely speaking and leaving Sunday afternoon hand in hand. The power of God’s truth to bring healing is simply incredible.

One such story happened over Valentine’s Day weekend. A couple arrived with the usual signs of stress in their relationship. One of our staff spoke to them and then on Saturday morning had the priviledge of leading the husband to faith in Christ. Of course, that changes everything, but there were roadblocks ahead.

Later that day, the wife confessed to her husband that she had been involved in an adulterous relationship. While he had suspected something, this was the first he had heard. That evening on date night they spent hours talking about transparency and working through what they had heard. When they left on Sunday, they were holding hands and their body language was totally different.

Now, I don’t mean to suggest that the difficulties are behind them. Clearly they have a long road ahead. But, I do know that they left with a plan that included transparent communication and a vision of oneness. Most of all, this young man left with the indwelling Holy Spirit to enable supernatural change. I pray for that couple and for the myriads of others that had similar stories this past weekend and in the 40+ more conferences this Spring alone.

One last statistic. Over 330 people indicated they had made a first time profession of this last weekend alone! Praise God for his amazing grace!
