I Still Do Still Does

This past weekend the 2nd of 3 FamilyLife arena events took place in Portland, OR. Earlier this month, Chicago was the site of the first event. Here are just a few of the comments from Chicago.

It Changed ME Too

Finally, this week I sat down with “Love is patient” as we started our homeschool time together. What a difference that made…in ME TOO! Mommy is more patient. Mommy is more kind. :) I am seeing it in my children. Only the Holy Spirit can do that kind of work in hearts.

Changed Lives in DC

At FamilyLife, we are junkies for changed life stories. Here are some of the top comments from the recent I Still Do in Washington DC. Bet you can’t read just one!

Cherish

“To love, honor and cherish as long as we both shall live.” A common vow made by grooms at the altar, most with the best of intentions. Yet when the honeymoon bags are unpacked and the rhythm of life has settled in, the groom becomes a husband and, too often, a vow to cherish is long-forgotten.

Dennis Rainey in Prison

I was on the verge of tears from the moment I walked in until I left. I met men from all kinds of backgrounds, with most of them coming from fatherless homes. Their ages spanned a half century, 25-75. They were there for being sex offenders, drug dealers, murderers, theft, and white collar crime. As they were given their Stepping Up graduation certificate, I looked each man in the eyes, shook his hand and hugged him, and I told each man I was proud of him completing the course. (93 of the men finished it…35 were transferred out of prison, and only 8 dropped out.)

Being Certifiable!

We got introduced to the concept of “Biblical counseling” at our Little Rock church and quickly fell in love with an approach based on the conviction that 2 Tim 3:16-17 (above) means what it says and that the Scriptures are, in fact, sufficient to help us deal with the issues of life. We began learning what we could about this ministry of the Word, attending classes and a couple of conferences on the topic.

Last summer I decided it was time to finally pursue formal certification by the Associate of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC – http://biblicalcounseling.com).

Fifty Shades of Black and White

A friend of the family that is about 74 years old wanted to buy 50 shades of Grey book for her 18 yr. old granddaughter and my 19 yr. old daughter. I told her that her granddaughter and my daughter do not need to read that book. I don’t want to read that book. She feels that it maybe a form of educating them about sex, etc. She haven’t even read the book.

Transitions

With Gene’s return we enjoyed a short season of having all our children living back under our roof. However, with the first of September we moved Gene out into his first apartment. The easy part is that the apartment is only 10 minutes away and so he’s much closer than when he was traveling around the world. The harder part is that this is probably his move out on his own in a new way.
